‘Ngl this is a little heartbreaking’
Marvel fans have been rallying around Brie Larson after the actor gave a “heartbreaking” response to a question about her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Since 2019, Larson has played the role of Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel, first appearing as the superhero in Captain Marvel and then later in Avengers: Endgame.
The MCU has since entered Phase 4, and the actor is due to appear in upcoming film The Marvels, and looks set to have a major role in the future of the franchise.
However, it doesn’t sound like she is so sure about that.
When asked at Disney’s D23 Expo how long she would play Captain Marvel for, the actor replied: “I don’t know. Does anyone want me to do it again?”
The interviewer then encouraged her not to be so ‘modest’, to which she replied: “I don’t know. I really don’t have the answer to that.”

Another said: “I hope she stays as Captain Marvel for a long time!”
Some pointed out that the box office success of Captain Marvel was proof enough that both fans and Disney would want her to carry on playing the role.
“1st Captain Marvel made 1 billion dollars so I would say yes,” one fan wrote.

Another said that Larson chose to respond to the question like this because of some toxic parts of the fandom who “always hate her in her posts when she makes reference to Cap Marvel.”
“So now she avoids that topic, because you always hurt her,” they explained.
Part of the marvel fandom want her to continue being our captain. Also she responds like this because there are people that always hate her in her posts when she makes reference to Cap Marvel. so now she avoids that topic, because you always hurt her

Someone else echoed the criticism of parts of the Marvel fandom, tweeting that “ome people on internet hate the fact of seeing a women so powerful and important part of Marvel.”
Brie Larson is perfect for Captain Marvel anytime. Just some people on internet hate the fact of seeing a women so powerful and important part of Marvel. But both #Marvel & #BrieLarson should not focus on those haters. She's doing a great job. Keep doing it Brie!!! @brielarson https://t.co/t1OAxPEjQQ

Larson has been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism and trolling for her role in the MCU, and in a social media post on Sunday addressed the hatred directly.
Sharing a picture of herself alongside Ms Marvel star Iman Vellani, fellow Captain Marvel actor Teyonah Parris and The Marvels director Nia DaCosta, she simply wrote: “*trolls combust*”
