A statement from her agency said that Doncaster-born Chambers died from natural causes and would be “greatly missed”. It read: “Emma created a wealth of characters and an immense body of work. She brought laughter and joy to many”.
As well as her role in the classic sitcom, she played parts in Notting Hill and the TV adaptation of Martin Chuzzlewit.
She is survived by her husband, Ian Dunn.
Emma Chambers was a hilarious and very warm person and of course a brilliant actress. Very sad news.
