How or when they’ll appear remains a mystery…
Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have been confirmed to make an appearance in the sixth and final series of Better Call Saul which is due to premiere on Netflix later this month.
The reveal was announced by series co-creator and writer Peter Gould who dished on Walter White and Jesse Pinkman’s return during a Better Call Saul panel at PaleyFest LA on Saturday. The event was in celebration the return of Bob Odenkirk’s critically acclaimed Breaking Bad spin-off series which co-stars Rhea Seehorn and Giancarlo Esposito.
“I don’t want to spoil things for the audience, but I will say the first question we had when we started the show was, ‘Are we gonna see Walt and Jesse on the show?’ Instead of evading, I’ll just say yeah,” he told the audience.
“How or the circumstances or anything, you’ll just have to discover that for yourself, but I have to say that’s one of many things that I think you’ll discover this season.”
Odenkirk, who headlines the show as Jimmy McGill – the fast-talking, legally-slippery law man who eventually transforms into meth kingpin Walter White’s preferred lawyer-for-hire Saul Goodman – almost dished even more details before Gould prompted him to save some of the show’s biggest twists and turns.
“If you can believe it, there’s more,” he started, before being cut short.
Cranston and Paul changed the shape of small-screen entertainment with Breaking Bad – a show about a dying teacher (Cranston) who finds a new lease of life by becoming a drug dealer alongside his drop out ex-pupil (Paul). The show ran for five series and became a water-cooler hit, arguably changing the shape and quality of small-screen entertainment moving forward.
“These two worlds cross over in a way that you haven’t seen before, that’s for sure,” said series co-creator and Breaking Bad mastermind Vince Gilligan, speaking to Variety at the season six premiere on Thursday evening.
“It would be a damn shame if the show ended without [Cranston and Paul] appearing, would it not?”
Odenkirk echoed these statements, telling reporters: “I personally feel that the two shows — ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ — are entwined even more than ever in the final season. And I think that’s surprising and cool, and it’s gonna make you want to watch ‘Breaking Bad’ again.”
As to the circumstances surrounding Cranston and Paul’s re-entry into the Saul Goodman’s world – audiences will have to watch and see when the show premieres on April 19.
