The wondrous Leonard Cohen is no longer with us.
Widely acknowledged as one of the very greatest and most influential songwriters and performers of all time, Cohen’s passing at the age of 82 has quite understandably been received with tremendous sadness and a plethora of wonderful tributes.
There are many millions of his fans and admirers who feel compelled to express their sadness via any avenue available to them. A message on social media is not so much a function they perform, as a reactive instinct. It is strangely cathartic.
Alas for others, referencing one of popular music’s most foremost poets is merely an exercise in fitting in. There’s an element of disingenuous bandwagon-ing by know-nowts whose only reference point is a cover version of Hallelujah on X Factor once.
On a completely separate and unrelated note, former bad author and current comedy tweeter Louise Mensch paid tribute to the legendary songsmith via her personal Twitter account.
It was obvious from her heartfelt sentiments that she was a lifelong fan of the Companion of the Order of Canada, who was inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame during his celebrated life.
So committed a fan is she of the Canadian icon from Westmount in Canada, that she tweeted the following message. Although can you spot the slight error?
