The actor is moving on, but what will happen to the character?
It is a sad day for Marvel film fans as Chris Evans has announced his appearance in Avengers 4 will be his last as Captain America.
Evans was there in the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the lead role in the 2011 hit Captain America: The First Avenger, before the Avengers series began the year after.
And now his role will culminate in the upcoming fourth Avengers film, which has just completed filming.
“Officially wrapped on Avengers 4,” Evans wrote in a tweet that is close to hitting 1 million likes. “It was an emotional day to say the least.
“Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honour. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories!
“Eternally grateful.”

Altogether, Evans has been at the helm of three Captain America films, including sequels The Winter Soldier and Civil War, with roles in all four Avengers and cameo appearances in Spiderman: Homecoming and Thor: The Dark World.
Fellow actors lined up to praise the 37-year-old’s successful stint as the comic hero, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds tweeting: “I’m not crying. I’m weeping. There’s a difference.”

Meanwhile, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson congratulated Evans on ‘breathing life into such an iconic character’ as the speculation on what he will do next ramped up.

The news will come as a surprise to many but the Boston-born actor has previously hinted that he would prefer to leave while the MCU remains arguably the top entertainment franchise in the world, although a huge question mark now hangs over Captain America’s exact fate in Avengers 4.

Well since Captain America is ALLEGEDLY going to die in A4.

“You want to get off the train before they push you off,” Evans recently told New York Times.
As for what he will do next, that also remains to be seen, with only an appearance in the upcoming biographical drama The Red Sea Diving Resort penciled in for release around the turn of the year.
