Lightyear will arrive in June 2022
Chris Evans (the Hollywood actor who played Captain America, not the former Radio 1 and TFI Friday presenter) will voice Buzz Lightyear in the new Pixar film, Lightyear, Disney has confirmed.
The announcement came during Disney’s four-hour investors presentation on Thursday, which also featured major news about upcoming Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar movie releases, as well as updates on new TV shows.
Lightyear, a Toy Story spin-off, is set to be released in June 2022, and tells the story of how the ‘original’ Buzz Lightyear went from being a young test pilot to the Space Ranger that inspired the action figure toy range.
This will be the first time Buzz has been voiced by someone other than Tim Allen, who has filled the role for each of the four Toy Story films.

The first film released in 1995(!), Toy Story is one of Disney’s most loved movie franchises. Toy Story 4 was released last year and grossed a worldwide total of $1.073 bn.
Pixar also announced that Lightyear’s launch would be preceded by the release of a new original film Turning Red. Directed by Domee Shi, it tells the story of a young girl called Mei who transforms into a red panda when she gets too excited. That will hit big screen in March 2022, three months before Lightyear.
