It takes quite something to overshadow both Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston.
Chris Hemsworth is more than a pretty face and a hammer. The Aussie actor may be more well known for playing seriously humourless Marvel superhero Thor, but he also happens to be a right funny bastard – as his turn in the recent Ghostbusters reboot proved.
He was also superb in the recent Captain America: Civil War spoof, in which he plays a bored and mildly annoying Thor with nothing to do whilst his Avenger pals kick the shit out of each other in the summer movie. He somehow manages to make the Greek God come across as David Brent…
But what some of his current fans may not know is that Hemsworth appeared in 171 episodes of Australian soap Home and Away between 2004 and 2007, as Summer Bay High student Kim Hyde. This was recalled brilliantly as the actor gate-crashed Tom Hiddleston’s acceptance speech for the TV Choice Awards.
Hiddelston won Best Actor for his captivating performance in The Night Manager, but Hemsworth was convinced that he was far more deserving of the accolade for his Home and Away stint. Fellow Thor: Ragnarok co-star Idris Elba popped up arguing that his portrayal of Luther deserved the gong, but Chris stole the show.
As for Hiddelston, hopefully the award will make up for his three-month publicity stunt relationship with Taylor Swift coming to an end.
