“Nobody will see this coming.”
We’ll be saying goodbye to another Weatherfield favourite very soon.
It’s been confirmed that Aidan Connor is to leave Coronation Street next year.
The character, played by X Factor winner Shayne Ward, will exit the soap in a dramatic storyline in the spring.
The show’s bosses are remaining tight-lipped on how exactly this will play out and have refused to comment on his departure.
“Shayne is an incredibly popular member of the cast and his exit in spring will bring high drama,” an ITV source told Metro.
“There is still a long way to go for Aidan from now as the character will remain on screen for another six months.
“But bosses have lined up a big leaving storyline for the character.”
“Nobody will see this coming,” another source told the Sun.
“Viewers are going to be absolutely stunned. It’s going to be a blow for the fans — but also a massive TV moment.”
Over Christmas, we’ll see Aidan try to save the Underworld factory, eventually reaching out to Carla for help.
Shayne joined the cast in as Aidan three years ago and quickly became popular with fans of the soap.
He picked up a National Television award and an Inside Soap award last year for his role.
