Created by David Milch, the Golden Globe-winning show starred Ian McShane as the vicious, cold and charismatic saloon owner Al Swearengen and he was joined by a superb cast that featured Timothy Olyphant as Seth Bullock, Molly Parker as Alma Garet and Brad Dourif as Doc Cochran.
After running for three seasons, the show was abruptly cancelled in 2006 and fans have been itching for a Deadwood return ever since.
Well, the wait could be finally over because Deadline are reporting that a Deadwood return has taken a massive step forward after the show received a $4.195 million California tax incentive.
While nothing has officially been announced, this is the clearest indication yet that the western could be returning because HBO wouldn’t apply for – and receive – a tax credit without any intention of bringing back the show.
Deadline are also reporting that in order to submit a tax benefit application, a finished script and sufficient financing must be in place to receive approval.
“Assuming that we could get all the actors back together, I think this is something we would do possibly next fall, fall 2018. I’m feeling optimistic about it,” HBO president Casey Bloys told Deadline in January.
At present, no official confirmation has been made regarding any production schedules or potential casting but if you’re a Deadwood fan, it’s time to get excited!
