The Raid is the best action film in years. This could be amazing.
Every once in a while, a film creeps up on you and absolutely knocks your head off. To many, Gareth Evans’ superb actioner The Raid was one of the best films of the last decade – we even wrote a glowing tribute to the superb Indonesian-set film here.
Since then, Evans went on to flex his considerable talent with a segment in V/H/S 2 and would you know it – he absolutely nailed that also. Truth be told, Safe Haven was one of the most jaw-dropping and f**king bonkers horror features that we’ve seen in a long time.
All things considered, we’re massive fans of the Welsh director and after being rumoured to circling a Deathstroke film, but Deadline is reporting that he’s also going to develop a big-budget TV drama about gangland London for HBO’s Cinemax and Sky Atlantic.
“The drama, which will launch in 2019, is set in contemporary London as it is becoming torn apart by power struggles involving a number of international gangs. The series begins as the head of one criminal gang is assassinated and the power vacuum threatens the fragile peace between the other underworld organisations,” they report.
Evans is a busy man because he’s currently working on Apostle with Dan Stevens, star of The Guest and Beauty and the Beast.
Speaking about his new gangster epic, Evans said that: “It has been a thrilling experience to leap into longform storytelling, exploring a multicultural world of global crime as it intersects on the streets of London.”
Hell, if this TV show is even half as good as The Raid and its sequel, we’re in for a massive treat.
