“He talked to me like I was Bruce Wayne so I just went along with it”
You can picture it, can’t you? Christian Bale in the grand office of Trump Tower, smirking to himself, as Donald Trump quizzes him about being Batman.
Donald Trump wondering about his utility belt. And the Batmobile.
Donald Trump offering him a covfefe.
Donald Trump telling Christian Bale he has a butler, too.
Donald Trump asking Christian Bale where he gets his body armour from. “Is it imported?”
Donald Trump reiterating to Christian Bale that Trump Tower is much, much more famous than Wayne Tower.
Speaking to Variety, Christian Bale recalled the time he was invited up to Trump’s office whilst filming a scene for The Dark Knight Rises in 2011. He was still in costume as Bruce Wayne and according to the Welsh born actor, that was enough to convince the future 45th President of the United States that he was Batman.
“I met him, one time,” Bale told Variety. “We were filming on Batman in Trump Tower and he said, come on up to the office.”
“I think he thought I was Bruce Wayne because I was dressed as Bruce Wayne,” the actor explained.
“So he talked to me like I was Bruce Wayne and I just went along with it, really. It was quite entertaining. I had no idea at the time that he would think about running for president.”
Oh, to be a fly on the wall when that exchange took place.
And then once again, when someone eventually informed big Don that was actually an actor he was speaking to and not, you know, Bruce Wayne.
“Do you need any walls, Bruce? I’m in the walls business you know. Call me.”
