Dr Dre admitted to getting emotional during the filming of upcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, which charts the rise of the seminal hip hop group.
The legendary West Coast rapper admitted that it was hard to watch certain scenes being filmed, particularly those involving Eric Lynn Wright, better known by his stage name Eazy-E. Wright passed away twenty years ago this week from complications related to AIDS.
The film is cast from relative unknowns with Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson Jr portraying his father, Corey Hawkins playing Dr Dre and Jason Mitchell portraying Eazy-E.
When asked how hard it was to watch the scenes involving Eazy-E, Dre responded “[Jason Mitchell] did an incredible job. There was a couple of times when I got a little emotional…When he’s in the hospital and he finds out he has the disease…his acting was that great.”
Straight Outta Compton is set to open in UK cinemas on August 14. Check out the trailer below – it looks ace.
