Brendan Fraser has received critical acclaim for his latest role
There are few actors and personalities who are as universally liked as Brendan Fraser, and the world of film is revelling in his comeback.
The Mummy Returns star has received critical acclaim for his latest role in The Whale. In the film, Fraser plays the role of a 600 pound (272kg) man living with obesity on the brink of death, who decides to try and reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter.
After the film’s screening on Sunday night at the Venice Film Festival, Fraser was reduced to tears after being given a six-minute standing ovation in a heartwarming moment for the actor.
Following this, celebrity royalty Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has also expressed his joy at Fraser’s resurgence.
In a tweet, he shared how Fraser supported him in his “first ever role”, which he credited as ‘kicking off my Hollywood career.’
“Man this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan,” the former wrestling star wrote. “He supported me coming into his Mummy Returns franchise for my first ever role, which kicked off my Hollywood career. Rooting for all your success brother and congrats to my bud Darren Aronofsky.”

Johnson made the transition to acting in The Mummy Returns, the second film in the hugely successful franchise fronted by Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
The Rock plays muscular demigod villain, the Scorpion King, in the 2001 film, who awakens from his prehistoric slumber to wreak havoc.
Meanwhile, Fraser is receiving rave reviews for his performance in The Whale, with some even suggesting that Fraser should be in the mix for an Oscar next year.
