Elton John entertained commuters at King’s Cross this morning

Did you get to sit next to the Rocket Man?

Did you hear Elton John on your commute to work this morning?

No, you weren’t hearing things when you touched down at King’s Cross Station, that was indeed Elton John’s “Your Song” playing.

Coming from a self-playing Disklavier piano, those with more of a curious nature who took the time to look a little closer will have stumbled upon a unique Elton John augmented reality experience. Showing an exact recreation of Elton singing his iconic “Your Song” from the night he played the legendary Troubadour in L.A. in 1970 – this was his breakthrough U.S. show where he became an overnight sensation – the experience, housed at one of London’s busiest train stations, is supported by YouTube.

It gave those on their morning commute the opportunity to literally sit next to 1970’s Elton John. Pretty cool, right?

“Your Song” is one of Elton John’s most popular records. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004 and featured on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Written by Elton and his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin, it was actually recorded by American rock band Three Dog Night first, who Elton John was an opening act for and allowed them to record it before releasing it for himself. Bet he’s glad he did now.

The augmented reality experience comes ahead of a special Elton John announcement in an exclusive live stream on YouTube tomorrow (January 24th) at 5.30pm on eltonjohn.com.

What could it be? A tour announcement? An album? The opportunity to play alongside the man himself? Maybe he’s planning a concert at King’s Cross. One thing’s for certain, we’ll know the answer tomorrow.
