First Pirates of the Caribbean 5 trailer focuses on terrifying-looking baddie

Jack Sparrow's in big trouble - again

Matt Tate

Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow has managed to piss off a remarkably large number of pirates in his time sailing the seven seas, and now we can add the spine-chilling Captain Salazar to that list.

The first trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge has dropped, focussing heavily on Javier Bardem’s baddie. We know Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall) is one of the best in the business at playing scary, evil dudes, so it’s not surprising that Disney have put him front-and-centre of the 1:50 teaser.

The set-up is this: Salazar and his crew of ghosts have broken free from the Devil’s Triangle, where they’ve been trapped for years. Inspired by their new-found freedom, the menacing pirate mob decide to embark on a mission to kill every pirate on the planet.

Top of their list – obviously – is everyone’s favourite rum-gulping rogue, Captain Jack Sparrow. We don’t see Depp’s iconic character in the trailer, but we do meet Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), son of Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner.

Salazar invades a ship with his crew before confronting Turner Jr to demand he pass on a message to Sparrow: “Death comes straight for him. Will you say that to him? Please?”

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge arrives in UK cinemas May 26 2017.
