“In Bielsa We Trust. Can we all say that?”
Jaime Lannister actor and Leeds United fan Nikolaj Coster-Waldau used an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night to make a Game of Thrones analogy that it’s fair to say went over the head of its American audience.
Asked about fan theories and the future plot line of the show’s finale, Coster-Waldau described how a “chosen one” would transform the north into a “magical paradise”.
Speaking about Game of Thrones fan theories, Coster-Waldau said: “There is one which I… you know there’s this theory of Azor Ahai, the chosen one who will come back and save the day? I think everyone think it’s Jon Snow.
“There’s also this thing about this guy called “Bielsa”, which is a guy who comes and magically transforms the world for the good. He will, when everything is lost up north, he will magically transform the north into this magical paradise.
“It will happen. If everybody says, “In Bielsa We Trust”. Can we all say that?”
Leeds United fans will of course be familiar with the narrative, as after over a decade in the lower tiers of English football, they have this season seen a transformation into a side that currently stands second in the Championship. Although it’s unlikely viewers over in the US of A would have quite as good an understanding of what he was talking about.
The Danish actor then added: “It’s Bielsa the Leeds manager, thank you very much”.
To which Jimmy Kimmel replied: “Us dumb Americans, we don’t know any of this stuff.”
