Who ya gonna call?
A Ghostbusters sequel set in the same universe as the two original films has been confirmed.
The news was confirmed in the early hours of Wednesday morning, by Entertainment Weekly, who say that Sony Pictures have dated the film for Summer 2020, with plans to start shooting in a few months.
Jason Reitman, the director behind Juno, has been hired to direct and co-write the new movie. Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the original movie in 1984.
The younger Reitman had this to say about being given the opportunity to have a hand in such an iconic franchise:
“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.
“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
It is still unclear whether or not the original actors such as Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, or Bill Murray will return, and we have no plot details or anything like that, but that doesn’t mean we won’t start getting excited over it.
