British indie band Glass Animals have broken a US chart record
Glass Animals’ single “Heat Waves” has reached the top 10 in America – but in an unusual way: it has become the country’s longest ever ‘sleeper’ hit.
Basically, that means the single took ages to get into the top 10 – 42 weeks, to be exact. The single actually first entered the charts in America back in January.
The news was shared by the Billboard Charts, which confirmed the single now owns the coveted title of “longest trip to the top 10 in the chart’s 63-year history.”

The track was originally released in August 2020 and hails from the band’s third album, Dreamland.
The US chart record was previously held by American Idol winner Carrie Underwood. Her 2006 single “Before He Cheats” took 38 weeks to make it into the top 10.
Over here in the UK, “Heat Waves” was also a sleeper hit. It took 35 weeks to reach the top 10, confirmed the Official Chart Company, who said the track has been steadily growing in popularity on TikTok.
Users have been sharing the song – or clips from the song – alongside funny videos because there’s part of the track which drops into an epic chorus.
The lyrics go “sometimes all I think about is you / late nights in the middle of June / heat waves been fakin’ me out / can’t make you happier now.” It’s been doing the rounds on football TikTok over the past few months:

Some have used TikTok to imagine what the song might have sounded like if it was made in different eras.

However perhaps most importantly – the song’s massive feel good vibes are making goal scoring moments look even better, including this Ronaldo goal from the last time Manchester United scored at home.
