Politicians are often accused of assuming London is the centre of the world, and the efforts of one mayoral candidate won’t have helped that reputation.
MPÂ Gareth Thomas hopes to stand for the Labour Party on a manifesto that includes bringing the Glastonbury Festival to London for one year only.
London is one of a number of British cities that has been mentioned as a potential European Capital of Culture in 2023, and Thomas wants the push to include a relocation of the Somerset-based festival.
Cheer up @rosibob @GlastoFest would be even better in Hackney Marshes, Richmond Park etc as part of a London Euro City of Culture

The proposal is ambitious to say the least, but we’re not sure he’d get the backing of the Eavis family, who have held the festival in the west country since the 1970s.
Still, if Thomas is successful, the plan could cause confusion for some performers, who seem to think the festival is already held in the capital.
Mary J Blige just thanked "Glastonbury, London". Almost babes. #Glasto2015
