Gogglebox icon passes away in hospital
Gogglebox star Mary Cook has died at the age of 92, passing away in hospital over the last weekend, her heartbroken family have confirmed.

The sad news of her death was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Channel 4.
“We are extremely saddened to share that Gogglebox star Mary Cook passed away in hospital this weekend at the age of 92 with her family by her side.
“Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to many, Mary, who worked in the hospitality trade, had been married and widowed twice.”

The pair “became instant fan favourites due to their brilliantly witty and often cheeky moments”, the statement added.
“Mary will be sorely missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew.
“Our love and thoughts are with Mary’s family, friends, and Marina. The family have asked for privacy at this sad time.”
Mary Cook and Marina Wingrove became staples in the beloved TV show. Though cook was formerly a hospitality worker, she met Marina in a retirement village more than a decade ago. The pair had been friends ever since.

“Mary had a beautiful voice and always witty, runny and making rude jokes.  I’ll miss her on our screens. Loved her,” tweeted one fan.Â
“Mary cook from goggle box died as if this day could get any worse,” tweeted Jess.Â
“Sad news Mary Cook of Mary & Marina on Gogglebox has died…I loved hearing their pearls of wisdom often completely off topic misinterpreted misunderstood & so funny… part of a fading generation RIP Mary,” tweeted another.
