2016 was an extremely busy year for the world’s most beloved documentarian Louis Theroux.
Aside from the release of his debut film, My Scientology Movie, the talented broadcaster also returned to our TV screens with three documentaries that examined alcoholism, brain injury and Jimmy Savile.
While various different outlets have reported that Theroux’s next subject would focus on Donald Trump, they’ve been proven to be wrong. Fake news! Sad, eh?
Theroux will return to the BBC Two in 2017 with three documentaries- Murder in Milwaukee, Opiate City and another feature that has the working title of Sex Trafficking Houston.
According to The Telegraph, Murder in Milwaukee will examine the racial tension that was sparked by two very recent police shootings in the city.
Opiate City will see Theroux return to an area that he has previously examined, the widespread use of drugs in the U.S. This time, he will investigate the USA’s crackdown on over-prescribing drugs that has lead to an epidemic of heroin abuse.
As for Sex Trafficking Houston, that seems fairly self-explanatory.
Speaking with The Independent about his upcoming documentaries, he said that “I immerse myself in some of the most dysfunctional and disturbing aspects of American society. They combine hard-hitting actuality with intimate interviews. I have been granted access to the police in several states; I’ve got to know the people affected by crime; and I’ve also spent time with the perpetrators of crime, with the idea of understanding the causes of it, both on a systemic level and also in a very personal way.”
