Jim Broadbent joins the cast of Game of Thrones for Season 7 for ‘significant role’

Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent will join the cast of Game of Thrones for Season 7 of the series which airs next year.

Entertainment Weekly have reported that the actor has signed on for the penultimate season of the show which will be just seven episodes long.

There’s no word yet on which character Broadbent will play in the series but it’s been revealed that it will be a “significant” role.

Broadbent is best known for his Oscar-winning role in the 2001 film, Iris, as well as his role as Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter franchise.

Broadbent is not the first Harry Potter star to make the transition to Westerns, with Osha (Natalia Tena) previously playing Tonks in HP and Walder Frey (David Bradley) playing Argus Filch.

Season 7 of Game of Thrones will be filmed in Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland and there’s already been rumours circulating about potential plot lines as fans speculate about what’s next in Westeros.
