Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy reunite in New York seven years on

Kyle Picknell

Let me tell you something. For the most part, the Harry Potter films are not good

There are many reasons for this. Changing directors meant there was no real continuity of tone which shifted wildly throughout the series. Only the Alfonso Cuarón helmed Prisoner of Azkaban stands up to any real scrutiny, thanks in part to Gary Oldman being Gary Oldman. Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2 were ok, similarly due to the performances of Alan Rickman as Snape, as was Goblet of Fire, because that was the best book.

Every other film in the series is largely forgettable. Let’s be honest. You now it’s true. Don’t get angry at me for giving you the facts, please.

Which is fine, obviously. It’s Harry Potter. It is what it is. It is Daniel Radcliffe playing the most annoying lead character in the history of cinema and it’s slowly watching Daniel Radcliffe gradually learn how to act over the course of the decade. But it was fun. It was, at least, fun. Semi-fun. Fun in parts. In instalments.

Tom Felton though? He was fucking brilliant from the get-go. Here he is being sassy for 3 minutes.

Listen to the way he spits out “POTTER” with such disdainful glee. Watch the way he stares, eyes glassy, full of menace, full of hidden pain. Listen to the way he says “Wait until my father hears about this”. Watch him, the little Aryan brat-child, conducting Crabbe and Goyle like puppets, delivering the perfect dickhead line, glare and smirk time and time again.

Felton’s Malfoy was a joy from the start and carried much of the acting burden in the first few films, almost single-handedly creating the good/evil tension opposite Radcliffe’s wonderboy wizard played with all the glowing charisma of someone slowly dying from pneumonia.

Regardless, it was nice to see the two boys, now men, reunite briefly in New York as they were backstage at Radcliffe’s latest show The Lifespan of Fact at the Studio 54 theatre.

Fortunately for all concerned, Radcliffe can actually act now. Kind of. I guess.

Felton, meanwhile, is currently starring in his own streaming series Origins which will debut on YouTube Red on November 14.

Let’s hear it for Draco Malfoy fucking Harry Potter off over and over again one last time.
