Haunting of Hill House sequel looks set to bring back two characters from the show

We’re getting even more ghosts than Season One

If you haven’t seen Mike Flanagan’s horror series on Netflix, consider this to be your spoiler alert warning.

After all, who would want to look into the red room without knowing what’s behind the door?

After we discovered that Olivia Crain died by suicide and haunted the rest of her family, you might be forgiven for thinking that the Crains’ story has now been told in the wonderful The Haunting of Hill House.

After all, it was recently announced that Season 2 of the anthology show will be called The Haunting of Bly Manor and that we’re going to witness a new story with new characters.

However, during an interview with The Wrap, Carla Gugino (Olivia Crain) said that she’s currently talking with the show’s creator, Mike Flanagan, about a role in the new season.

“Well, I can’t say anything definitive at this point, other than Mike and I really love collaborating and working together and any opportunity where a schedule allows for us to do that, we will, and I would be honoured to. We’re talking a lot about it and we’ll just see if all schedules allow. All I can say is I’m very excited for Season 2 and to see what Mike does,” she said.

Gugino has a good working relationship with Flanagan; she also starred in his 2017 film Gerald’s Game, but her return to the show might surprise some viewers. Perhaps she’ll have a new role?

To be honest, the story of the Crains was brilliantly wrapped up in the first season but Gugino might not be the only returning character in the new tale.

Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Luke Crain) recently said that he’d “get shot” if he confirmed his involvement in season two.

“I will get shot if I ever answer that question (returning to the show). I would love to answer that question. All I can say is that Bly Manor is going to be incredible. It’s a very, very exciting story, from what I’ve heard,” he said.

As for the plot of The Haunting of Bly Manor, the new horror tale will be an adaptation of the classic gothic literature novella, The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James.

The story unfolds over Christmas Eve as a group of friends gather around to share ghost stories. One of the guests, a man named Douglas, begins to tell the tale of two children (Flora and Miles) and their governess.

The governess is hired by a man to take care of his young niece and nephew after the death of their parents. However, both children are strangely distant and oddly silent.

The children also live in a forlorn estate and are frequently haunted by a mysterious evil. With growing horror, the helpless governess realises that fiendish ghouls want the children.

However, both children are drawn to the darkness for reasons unknown.

Mike Flanagan has also promised that The Haunting of Bly Manor will have even more ghosts and ghouls than its predecessor.

At present, the show is scheduled for release in 2020 but no exact date has been set.

We can’t wait.
