IT: Chapter Two will delve into the terrifying origins of Pennywise

Paul Moore

He’s about to become even more terrifying.

Given the fact that Bill Skarsgard will also be appearing in the Castle Rock TV show that’s based on some of Stephen King’s most iconic novels, we’re fairly certain that people will be absolutely terrified if they met the talented actor.

Since being released, IT has now become the highest-grossing horror of all time and fans are eagerly awaiting Part Two of Andy Muschietti’s adaptation.

While the most recent film was set in the 1980s and featured the Losers Club as kids, fans of the book and original mini-series will know that the second part of this story is set 27 years later as Pennywise returns to terrorise the town of Derry, Maine.

In an interview with IGN, Skarsgard has said that the next film will delve into the origins of Pennywise.

“The first movie worked so well at what it is trying to do, I think, and ultimately that is the kids’ story, and you sort of fall in love with these kids. And the second one will be the adult story. And I think the right way to do it is to make that movie actively different.  I think there might be worth exploring sort of the psychological aspects of horror, but also maybe the sort of cosmological existence of this being. What is he (Pennywise), and where does he come from?” he said.

The actor added: “And, you know, it’s hardly answered in the novel, either. I mean, it’s very abstract. And I kind of like that. And if you’ve read the novel you know that they do actually go into his mind. Or they go into this trans-dimensional place, and they sort of beat him in this place.  Which might be interesting, what that place would be, and what would it look like. There are opportunities, I think, and I’m excited about it.”

Horror fans feel the same way.

It: Chapter 2 will arrive in theaters on September 6, 2019.
