A date has been set for Black Mirror’s return on Netflix

Not long to wait now

We’ve had to wait more than three years for a new series of ‘Black Mirror’, but that wait will soon be over.

Sure, we got that one-off Christmas episode in 2014, but the full-length Netflix series is what we’ve been waiting for.

Last year’s cryptic teaser trailer promised us new episodes ‘soon’, and now we have a date.

The official Black Mirror Twitter account sent out the message ’86 days’. Which, by our very rudimentary calculations, means October 21.

We’re still none the wiser when it comes to the topics covered in the upcoming season, but we’d wager the delay could well be on the grounds that nothing can be considered too dystopian or unrealistic any more.

The growth of the sex robot industry? A Prime Minister doing unmentionable things with a pig? The line between fiction and news is already blurring beyond what we might have expected.

The third series of ‘Black Mirror’ will be 12 episodes long, and if it’s anything like Netflix’s other original series then all the instalments will drop on the same day.

Charlie Brooker, who created the original series, remains on board as script-writer.
