This would be an interesting casting

Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs has joked that he would like to play Hermione Granger in the reboot series which is due to commence filming later this year.

The new spin-off TV series was announced last year based on all seven Harry Potter books written by JK Rowling.

The HBO series is expected to premiere in 2026 and will be more in depth than the movies.

An open-casting call was issued last year as the series searches for it’s three young stars and while they have not yet been confirmed, in December, it was speculated that I May Destroy You star Paapa Essiedu is in the running to play Severus Snape, previously brought to life by the late great Alan Rickman.

John Lithgow has been tipped to play Albus Dumbledore.

Meanwhile, Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod were revealed as the series’ writer and director.

The pair said: “We have 8 hours to tell the first book, so we can dig into the real depths and crevices and how the language of magic can evolve.”

They also said that they were in the middle of auditioning the 32,000 children who have applied for the lead roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermoine.

However, a surprising candidate has put themselves forward for the role of Hermione. Isaacs who played Lucius Malfoy in the original movies has told Deadline he would like to play the iconic character.

He joked: “I’m hoping to come back as Hermione. I sent my audition tape in and I’ve yet to hear.”

Isaacs previously revealed he didn’t actually audition for the role of Lucius originally.

He told Digital Spy: “I didn’t audition for Lucius, I auditioned for Gilderoy Lockhart. I was mightily p****d off when they asked me would I mind reading for a different part.

“I was about to go play Captain Hook [in 2003’s Peter Pan] and didn’t want to do two children’s villains. I went back in and read then went home.”
