‘Dark Horse’ isn’t the only song that mentions Dahmer
People are criticising Katy Perry for a lyric in her song ‘Dark Horse’ that mentions infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Dahmer has been trending on social media ever since Netflix dropped their latest series, ‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’, a dramatization of his life and crimes which stars Evan Peters as Dahmer.
Also known as the ‘Milwaukee Cannibal’ or the ‘Milwaukee Monster’, Dahmer killed and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He also reportedly ate parts of his victims, who he would lure back to his apartment before killing them.
Since the release of the Netflix series, music fans have criticised Katy Perry for a lyric in her 2013 track ‘Dark Horse’ which makes reference to Dahmer and his crimes.
Despite being released almost 10 years ago, people are now pointing out how one line rapped by Juicy J, who features on the track, could be seen as problematic.
In his verse, Juicy J clearly references Dahmer and his crimes with the line: “She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer (whoa!).”
Some have labelled it “disrespectful” and “vile.”
One person tweeted: “It still upsets me when I hear the line in the song Dark Horse ‘She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer’ and I always make my daughter turn the station.
“It’s so disrespectful to the victims families. I hope people remember them while watching Netflix. Sorry for their losses.”
Another said: “Why isn’t anyone calling out Katy Perry for allowing such a vile & terrible lyric to be included in one of her hit songs?
“Jeffrey was a notorious serial killer & Katy CHOSE to romanticize his criminal & inhumane actions. I actually feel sick to my stomach. She NEEDS to apologize.”

But others pointed out that if people are going to criticise Perry for the ‘Dark Horse’ lyric, then Netflix is also guilty of ‘glamorising’ Dahmer by producing the series about him.
if they won't let juicy j's verse on katy perry's dark horse play on the radio then they shouldn't make any more shows or movies about jeffrey dahmer

‘Dark Horse’ isn’t the only example of a pop song which mentions the infamous killer in its lyrics.
In her 2010 song ‘Cannibal,’ Ke$ha also mentions Dahmer in the lyric: “And for dessert, I’ll suck your teeth/Be too sweet, and you’ll be a goner/(Yeah) I’ll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer”
Wikipedia lists almost 60 songs that mention Dahmer, with the likes of Eminem, Phoebe Bridgers, Nicki Minaj and the Manic Street Preachers all referencing the serial killer in their tracks.
… you know jeffree dahmer is literally one of the most referenced criminals in pop & hip hop music, right? dark horse by katy perry & juicy j also name dropped him and that went #1 in 2014. like… it’s been so normalized for decades now that this naive tweet is funny to me https://t.co/uL9GU1NXwk pic.twitter.com/Q6XVapjiPa
