What a performance.
Lady Gaga’s much-anticipated half-time performance at Super Bowl 51 was something to behold. Whereas the speculation prior to the event was all about whether she’d make any overt political statements against Donald Trump, or indeed if a satanic ritual would feature, it was the famed songstress’ worship of the Red Devils of Manchester that made it a night to remember.
That’s right, Gaga outed herself as a Man United supporter during a virtuoso display that featured two costumes changes, tons of backing dancers, and a plethora of Premier League related reenactments – most of them referencing Jose Mourinho’s men. Grid iron fans may have missed many of the nods to our version of football, but to our eyes they were patently obvious.
In case you slept through the 12-minute spectacle, here are all the faithful tributes to our national game, with a strong bias to the Red and White Army:
Who did it better? Mkhitaryan or Giroud? No contest – it’s Gaga of course…
Look away now City fans – good old Gags is bantering you off right and proper…
Here Lady G cheekily pokes fun at Ander Herrera being merked by Mark Noble…
It’s not all United – Her Gaga-ness also references this classic Eden Hazard/ballboy moment…
Shat on Super Bowl? LG is clearly a student of the game and recalls this notorious Italia 90 moment…
Affording admirable respect to the blue half of Manchester, Gaga is obviously a fan of Pep Guardiola’s innovative tactics…
Such nonpartisanship isn’t extended to Anfield as the Queen of the Monsters parodies Stevie G’s famous slip speech…
But in fairness she also recalls a happier time for Gerrard and co with this belting rendition of the Kolo/Yaya chant…
Back to United and this could only be a hat tip to every Phil Jones header ever…
Finally, she didn’t forget Jones’ defensive partner Marcos Rojo, with this classy nod to his ‘full-blooded’ tackling style…
