A very fun, cult action movie is airing on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

The film spawned a sequel series that ran for two seasons.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Wednesday, 30 October) is Legion, the 2010 action horror starring Paul Bettany (WandaVision).

In the film, Bettany plays the Archangel Michael who falls to Earth after rebelling against God.

This is because God has lost faith in humanity and has sent the rest of his angels to destroy the human race.

To combat these apocalyptic forces, Michael travels to a diner under siege near the edge of the Mojave Desert in Los Angeles.

His mission: Protect a pregnant waitress (Adrianne Palicki) whose unborn baby is destined to be humanity’s saviour.

Co-written and directed by Scott Stewart (Dark Skies, Priest), Legion co-stars Charles S. Dutton (Alien 3), Dennis Quaid (The Substance), Doug Jones (The Shape of Water), Kate Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy), Kevin Durand (Abigail), Lucas Black (Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift), Tyrese Gibson (Transformers) and Willa Holland (Arrow).

Comically dubbed “Angels with Uzis” upon release, the movie was not well-received by critics for the most part but was a hit at the box office.

And we’re siding with audiences on this one. The film’s great cast, its biblically-inspired story and its premise in which the fate of the world hinges on what happens in a claustrophobic cafe in the desert makes Legion worth a watch or rewatch.

Having spawned a sequel series that ran for two seasons called Dominion, the original Legion is airing on TV tonight on Film4 at 9pm.

It is also streaming on Prime Video.
