“Inevitably we’ll start making music.”
In the superb documentary Supersonic, there’s a lovely moment that just encapsulates why the Gallagher brothers love to hate each other. In Noel’s own words: “Our relationship is about a power struggle that’s what it is. It’s about me being in charge and everybody directing everything towards me and Liam being pissed off about it. That’s basically what starts it all.”
As Liam says “I think it all boils down to the fact that when he bought a stereo years ago and we shared a room, I think one night I’d come in pissed and I couldn’t find the light switch so I pissed all over his new stereo. I think it basically boils down to that. He’s held that grudge ever since. Let go of them bridges brother.”
Despite the frosty relationship between both brothers in recent weeks, it appears that Liam is still fostering hope that Oasis will reunite.
In an interview with Beats 1, he said “the most important thing that people keep missing is that me and our kid don’t speak and that’s the saddest thing about it. Two wrongs don’t make no right. So before Oasis get back together and before there’s cheques knocking about, me and him need to start becoming brothers and friends again, and inevitably we’ll start making music.”
Regarding his relationship with Noel, the As You Were singer said “He prods me and I prod him. I’m letting him know that I’m still here. I’m right here, I ain’t going away. I find it funny taking the piss out of my older brother who thinks his s*** don’t stink. I find it funny.”
Somehow, we’re instantly reminded of another scene in Supersonic when Noel pours his heart out into a note that details why he’s considering leaving the band. After finishing this note, he slid it under Liam’s door and left.
Liam proceeded to use this piece of paper to snort crystal meth.
Never change, lads.
