Loki puts the B in LGBTQ+.
Though people with be compelled to write “who cares” underneath this piece, this is still a massive moment for LGBTQ visibility in one of the biggest franchises on the planet. Marvel, and by association Disney, have often been called out on their lack of queer diversity, especially as the comics are bursting through the pages with just about every letter of the acronym.
But a small victory has arisen in the third episode of the Disney + show Loki. They have confirmed that Loki is bisexual, as they are in the comics.
In a conversation with ‘Lady Loki’, because yes, they’re also gender-fluid in the comics, they both ask curious questions about one another’s love life.

“Would-be princesses, or perhaps another prince?” asks Sylvie. To which Loki replies, “A bit of both. I suspect, the same as you.”
Director Kate Herron took to Twitter to share her thoughts:
“it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual. It is a part of who he is and who I am too. I know this is a small step but I’m happy, and heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon.”
Though no characters have explicitly been depicted as bisexual yet, there are actually more in the Marvel world than you think. Bucky Barnes, Valkyrie, Deadpool, Mystique, and Wolverine are just a few of the characters that operate in the bisexual sphere.
Though a scene in Thor: Ragnarok was supposed to hint at Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie being queer, it was cut in the final edit. However, Marvel president Kevin Feige has confirmed that there will be a complete storyline in the upcoming instalment.
Though this is a baby step in terms of representation, it is a huge leap towards a better MCU future. Though it is doubtful we will see an LGBTQ+ storyline in Loki, never say never!
