The character, played by Sean Wilson, returns to Weatherfield after a 12-year absence to support son David in the aftermath of his sexual assault.
Sadly, it won’t mean a reunion with ex Gail as Martin will be accompanied by pregnant girlfriend Robyn and their unborn child.
“Martin was always a womaniser and that didn’t stop when he left Weatherfield all those years ago, a source told the Sun.
“He’s moved on from everything that happened on the street and built a new life for himself and that includes a new family.
“There will be a new Platt on the way but David’s not going to be too pleased about the thought of having a little brother or sister.”
David, played by Jack P. Shepherd, is soon to be embroiled in a dark storyline as he’s to become the victim of rape after being drugged by a new friend on a night out.
The attack itself will not be shown – instead, we’ll see David waking up the morning after a night out in Josh’s bed to find he’s been drugged and realise what’s happened.
The storyline will focus on David coming to terms with what has happened, including deliberating over whether to report it.
