Matt LeBlanc compares Friends to Shakespeare and keeps a straight face…

Tony Cuddihy

Matt LeBlanc says some of the themes in Friends mirror those of William Shakespeare.

Speaking to the Radio Times ahead of the new series of Episodes, LeBlanc said that some of the storylines of his former hit comedy had shades of the Bard.

“The themes we dealt with were sort of eternal like friendship and love and marriage and trust and betrayal – things that date back as far as, I don’t know, Shakespeare. As far back as storytelling goes,” he insisted.

“The characters really cared about each other. You know they loved each other. When they made fun of each other it was always in good fun.”

Meanwhile, a Friends reunion is still not happening.

“I don’t think there’ll be a movie,” he said. “We spend a lot of time together, so any time there’s more than one of us in a room together there’s going to be parallels drawn to the show.

“But as far as a reunion goes, I just don’t think it’s going to happen. I think we’re all very flattered that people keep talking about it.”
