Matt LeBlanc is joining Top Gear

If this is Top Gear’s hail Mary move, then fair play to them.

The revamped BBC show has hit the news for all the wrong reasons, from Chris Evans’ car-sickness to criticism over the choice of presenters.

There have been suggestions that Jeremy Clarkson’s new Amazon show will put his previous gig to the sword, but that could change with the announcement that Matt LeBlanc is set to join the programme.

That’s right, Joey Tribbiani himself.

The BBC have confirmed that the actor, 48, will join Evans as a co-presenter.

He will be the first American to ever host the programme, which first aired in 1977.

“Matt’s a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I’m thrilled he’s joining Top Gear,” Evans is quoted as saying in The Guardian.

“Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we’ll both be debating some epic road trip ideas. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been up to on screen later this year.”
