Molly-Mae mocked, ‘If you’re homeless just buy a house’
Molly-Mae Hague has been absolutely binned over comments made in a now-viral video where she talks about wealth inequality and poverty.
The former Love Island contestant made the remarks during an interview shared on YouTube on 13 December, but a clip from The Diary of a CEO episode – Molly Mae: How She Became Creative Director Of PLT At 22 – went viral on Wednesday when it was shared on Twitter.

The 22-year-old has been roasted for failing to acknowledge her privileged upbringing and how easy she got rich and famous in a career that has involved appearing on a reality TV show and posting pictures on social media. As an influencer, Molly-Mae has had numerous endorsement deals and is currently the creative director of online clothing brand Pretty Little Things (PLT) (a deal rumored to be worth £500K). PTL is owned by parent-company Boo Hoo Group which has been accused of “modern slavery”.
Molly-Mae said people could “literally go in any direction” with their lives if they “want it enough” and put in the work – as she did.
The comment hasn’t stopped ricocheting across social media where Molly-Mae has been brutally mocked for her attempts to inspire by drawing parallels between herself and those less well off.
“I understand we all have different backgrounds and we’re all raised in different ways and we do have different financial situations, but I think if you want something enough you can achieve it,” she says.

“It just depends on what lengths you want to go to get where you want to be in the future. And I’ll go to any length.”
In the clip, Molly-Mae does however acknowledge that she has been called out in the past over her privileged background – but then doubles down.
“You’re given one life and it’s down to you what you do with it. You can literally go in any direction,” she explains.
“When I’ve spoken about that in the past I have been slammed a little bit, with people saying ‘it’s easy for you to say that because you’ve not grown up in poverty, so for you to sit there and say we all have the same 24 hours in a day is not correct.’ But, technically, what I’m saying is correct. We do.”
Social media users have skewered Molly-Mae over her comments.
One user shared the clip, captioning it: “If you’re homeless just buy a house.”

I wrote an entire 10,000 word dissertation on the Class Ceiling and why working class people struggle to progress. But everyone has the same 24 hours in a day and opportunities according to Molly Mae so how can there ever be a class ceiling? 😍😌🥰 😳😳 https://t.co/Y0IOFk1Tin

Another wrote: “She literally just went on a TV dating show and got brand deals, I’m not sure she ‘worked here arse off’.”
Another highlighted how out of touch Molly-Mae is with millions of hard-working people: “Oh you work full-time but still need to use a food bank? Just work harder, you clearly don’t want to eat badly enough.”
Molly-Mae is currently in New York with her boyfriend Tommy Fury.
