Money Heist season 5 is dropping on September 3

The hit Spanish crime thriller is back at the start of September

Following a tantalising teaser trailer posted by Netlfix today, it has been revealed that the fifth season of the blockbuster original show, Money Heist, will be dropping on September 3rd. Popcorn at the ready.

This year’s season will be ten episodes but split into two halves, with the second “volume” arriving three months later on December 3rd. Well, Feliz Navidad!

The show’s creator, Álex Pina – who was also behind another Netlfix original, White Lines (co-written by the team behind The Crown) – said that “when we began to write Part 5 in the midst of the pandemic, we felt that we had to change what was expected from the ten-episode season”.

He describes using the mid-season break and finale format, also seen in shows like Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead in recent years, as an attempt to use “every tool we could to create the sensation of a season finale or series finale in the first volume itself”.

He went on add that the production team has worked “in an extremely aggressive genre” this time around, “putting ‘The Gang’ on the ropes. In volume 2, we focus more on the emotional situation of the characters. It is a journey across their sentimental map that connects us directly to their departure.”
The show went from having a cult following to becoming an international phenomenon, with record-breaking ratings for a foreign language programme and being the most-watched show on the platform in six countries. It even had Neymar in it (no, seriously).
It’s known for being absolutely action-packed from minute one and features some utterly wild plot lines. Season four in particular went down as perhaps the craziest yet. We’re not going to give any spoilers or anything, don’t worry – let’s just say you might need to lie down afterwards.
For many viewers and critics alike, it’s the best show you’re not watching, as still more and more people are giving in to the peer pressure and finding it lives up to the hype. Question is, are you a fan and, if not, what are you waiting for!?
