About time!

The MTV Movie Awards has announced two massive changes for this year’s awards ceremony. First of all, they will now be known as the MTV Movie and TV Awards and will include TV and streamed services in the nominations.

The second big change is that there will no longer be a specific category for best male and best female actors. Instead, they are making a gender neutral ‘Best Actor’ award.

This will mean that Emma Watson will be up against Hugh Jackman, Daniel Kaluuya, Taraji P Jenson and Hailee Steinfeld.

While in the TV category for Best Actor, The Walking Dead‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be up against Millie Bobby Brown, from Stranger Things, and Emilia Clarke, from Game Of Thrones.

According to The BBC, spokesperson Kim Turbeville commented on the change:

“A great performance is great regardless of gender and we think that dropping the male/female division has made the drama performance category more exciting.”
