Her phone battery died as a result
A woman whose phone number was published in Netflix’s twisted new hit Squid Game has said that she receives thousands of calls a day as a result.
Within the show, a person’s number is shown on screen in the form of a business card but it turns out to be a valid phone number. Fans have naturally dialled the number and swiftly discovered that it belongs to someone known only as A, reports Monday Today.
“Since the broadcast of the Squid Game, I receive 24 hours text messages and phone calls so that it is difficult to live my daily life,” A told the platform.
“Some 4,000 phone calls come in every day. I did not even realize what was going on as I did not watch the series. Someone who prank called me told me that the number was featured on the show.”
A has received so many notifications that their phone’s battery has been depleted entirely by them.
Netflix has since responded to the situation, saying: “Netflix, as well as Squid Game’s production company Cyron Pictures, are aware of the problem and are working to solve it.”
If you have been living under a rock, then you might not have heard of Squid Game. Released just over a week ago, the series follows a cast of characters who are all struggling with enormous amounts of debt.
Tempted by the opportunity to clear their slates, the group are put into a gameshow-style setting that takes popular kids’ games and turns them into deadly, life-or-death situations.
The show has scored a near-perfect rating on review accumulator site Rotten Tomatoes and is also on track to become Netflix’s most popular show ever.
