The Premium package could rise to £12.99 per month
Netflix users could be hit by a price increase if the streaming service follows through on a series of tests it is running regarding its subscription packages.
The Premium package is on offer at £9.99 per month at the moment, ahead of the £5.99 Basic and £7.99 Standard options. Netflix appears to be advertising Premium at a wide range of prices in what they describe as “tests” on whether or not to actually raise their fees.
“We are testing slightly different prices to better understand how members value Netflix,” a spokesperson told Digital Spy.
“Not everyone will see this test and we may never roll out these specific prices beyond this test. Our goal is to ensure that Netflix is always great value for money.”
Exactly how this test works is hard to tell, Digital Spy forum users report seeing Premium advertised at £10.99, £11.99 and £12.99 per month, the latter amounting to an increase of £36 per year.
US users have experienced a number of price hikes in recent months, analysts pointing out that three increases have arrived amid Spotify’s financial difficulties. Alas, the company has made clear that these changes are region specific and do not necessarily reflect hikes across the board.
