‘Damn, season 4 only just came out and season 5 already announced’
Netflix hit, ‘You’, will return for a fifth season, but it will be its last.
The thriller, starring Penn Badgley as serial killer Joe Goldberg, will be renewed for a new season, the streamer confirmed on Friday, but will have a change of showrunners.

Variety reported that executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo will take over for Sera Gamble, who originally developed ‘You’ with Greg Berlanti, and ran the show for its first four seasons.
According to the outlet, Gamble said in a statement: “As I step back from day-to-day showrunning to focus on new projects, I’m immensely grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros and Netflix.
“Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honour and ridiculously fun. And I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn Badgely. I’m proud of what we’ve all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch. I’m excited to watch and support the ‘You’ team as they bring Joe Goldberg’s journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”
You originally dropped on Lifetime in 2018 but was soon cancelled.
However, when it landed on Netflix in December 2018, it was an instant hit.
Accompanying the announcement, Netflix teased Joe’s fate, asking: “Will Joe Goldberg finally get his judgment day?”
At the end of Season 4 – spoiler alert – Joe returns to New York City where season 1 began and is alongside his new love, Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), who’s inherited her father’s fortune, thank to her beau’s handiwork.
Netflix’s statement comes after Badgley earlier expressed his hope that season five would be the last.
He told IndieWire: “It feels to me like we need to do another season. It feels to me like Joe needs to get what’s coming to him, and now he has further to fall because he has all this power and wealth.
“But of course, that’s not up to me. I don’t know where it’s going.
“But to me, with this concept and with this character, we always wanted to be responsible and it’s not just the kind of thing we can let keep going because it’s doing well.”
