The John Wick movies are the gift we don’t deserve.
With the current blockbuster landscape dominated by bloated superhero movies and regurgitated IPs, John Wick and its sequel have been exactly what we need: a short, sharp shot of unironic action movie goodness. The combination of clean, clearly shot action, unique worldbuilding and Keanu Reeve’s effortless cool have made them modern cult classics.
After John Wick: Chapter 2 ended on a cliffhanger, fans are eagerly awaiting what happens next. There’s a spin-off TV series entitled The Continental in the works, focusing on the mysterious hotel that the assassins hang out at. But more importantly, John Wick: Chapter 3 is also on the way. And now we appear to have some details about it.
It is being reported that Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada will be cast as the main villain of the film. Sanada long list of credits include the original Ring movies, The Wolverine, Speed Racer and 47 Ronin, where he appeared alongside Keanu.
Reportedly other Japanese actors are being sought by casting directors, leading to speculation that the Yakuza could feature heavily in the threequel. It has also been suggest that Sananda’s character could be the yaukuza’s representative at the shadowy ‘High Table’ of crime bosses in the world of John Wick.
John Wick: Chapter 3 is currently scheduled to be released on May 17, 2019.
