Shit just got real.
If you’re a fan of Bad Boys, the frequent delays regarding the third film are more uncomfortable than waking up with a Power Ranger up your ass. Ok, here’s the full story. For a while, it seemed like Bad Boys III was a done deal. Columbia Pictures had a script and a couple of directors on the cards and even had assigned Bad Boys III a release date of February 17, 2017, a date that you’ll notice has long gone by.
The good news is that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are game for another film.
“I saw Martin [Lawrence] a few weeks ago. I haven’t seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment we knew we were making another Bad Boys. We’re definitely doing another one,” Will Smith told the BBC.
This being said, the release date was then pushed back to June 2017 (also gone), then again to January 2018 (also gone), then again to November 2018. Now, unfortunately, it’s been taken off Sony’s release slate, meaning that it’s not currently scheduled for release at all.
According to Deadline, the script is being tweaked, and Will Smith is still interested in starring, but for now, it looks like Bad Boys won’t be coming to a cinema near you but a TV show is happening.
NBC will be filming a pilot for an untitled Bad Boys spinoff TV series starring Gabrielle Union – you might remember her from Bad Boys II where she played the sister of Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence).
Deadline have reported that the TV show will revolve around the character of Special Agent Syd Burnett, played by Union in 2003’s sequel to Bad Boys.Last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel, she is making a cross-country move from Miami to Los Angeles.
If the show turns out to be a hit, it might just convince the studios to complete the Bad Boys trilogy.
Now back up, put the gun down, and get me a pack of Tropical Fruit Bubblicious…and some Skittles.
