In Nolan we trust.
As far as we’re concerned, Christopher Nolan could direct a film about a man that’s reading the phone book and we would still queue up to watch it in the cinema.
In terms of modern day filmmakers, very few directors that can match the man that’s responsible for Memento, Inception, The Prestige and The Dark Knight trilogy.
Not only are Nolan’s films incredibly entertaining, visually stunning and wonderfully gripping, the English director also has the ability to coax superb performances from his cast – good news then because his upcoming film Dunkirk will star Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh.
In case you haven’t seen the jaw dropping trailers, Nolan’s WW2 epic tells the story of the Dunkirk evacuation (code-named Operation Dynamo) that took place in France during World War II. Allied soldiers were surrounded by the German army and a rescue attempt was launched, calling up a hastily-assembled flotilla of fishing boats merchant vessels and pleasure boats.
Given the bloody nature of war, film fans are familiar with seeing limbs blown off, blood spraying on the screen and enough cursing to turn the air blue.
Dunkirk isn’t going to be that type of war film though because the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) have given it a PG-13 rating due to its “intense war experience and some language.”
The film hasn’t been given a rating in the UK or Ireland yet, but we’re not expecting any difference between the final cut that’s going to be screened in both territories.
Given the fact that Nolan has reinvented the comic-book genre with The Dark Knight, we’re supremely confident that he can do the same with his WW2 actioner. In fact, the early word of mouth is that the film is as intense as hell.
Plenty of people agree with that statement, however there are also some doubters.

With a Summer release, you'd expect Warner Bros. to want as many bums on seats as possible. A PG-13 rating for Dunkirk allows that.

Disheartened to hear #Dunkirk is rated PG-13. War, in real life, is R-rated and now DUNKIRK could feel less impactful.

Haven't liked the previews for #Dunkirk. Feels like Nolan is disappearing into pretentiousness more and more. the PG-13 rating is a bad omen

Before you ask, the answer is yes. Given that Harry Style is in the cast, *that* theory has also been doing the rounds.

All things considered, we’re still going to be queuing up for Dunkirk when it’s released on July 21st.
