It’s a truly unforgettable movie that will make for excellent pre-Halloween viewing.
Yes that’s right folks, one of the most terrifying horrors of the 21st century is on TV tonight and also available on BBC iPlayer just in time for Halloween.
The Babadook will be on BBC Three at 9pm
Our movie pick for tonight is this 2014 Australian psychological horror about a widowed single mother (an incredible Essie Davis) and her son (Noah Wiseman) who fall into a deep well of paranoia when an eerie children’s book titled Mister Babadook manifests in their home.
The astonishing feature debut of writer-director Jennifer Kent (The Nightingale), The Babadook felt revelatory upon release for the way it uses the horror genre to tell a deeply human and powerful story about grief and parental fears.
In fact, it could be credited with kickstarting the wave of more artier hit horrors in recent years, alongside Hereditary, Get Out, It Follows and The Witch.
The Babadook is also available to rent on several services including Apple TV, Google Play, Volta and Rakuten TV.
If that wasn’t enough for you then we’ve also got a whole host of other movies on over the evening.
