Are you ready to shit yourself laughing?
One of the funniest films made in the last 20 years is on Freeview tonight.
The Oscar nominated comedy could be the highlight of your evening, although it does fall into the Apatow stereotype (he produced it) and runs slightly too long.
Bridesmaids is a 2011 film starring Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Rose Byrne, directed by Paul Feig.
The comedy mixes observation and satire with slapstick and farce.
A maid of honour watches her relationship with a best friend spiral out of control – along with the rest of her life.
Having lost all of her savings in a failed business venture and been dumped by her boyfriend, she focuses on arranging her childhood friend’s big day.
Unfortunately rivalries among the bridesmaids, an attempt to hijack her plans and a bout of food poisoning all derail plans.
The best laid plans…
The film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for best motion picture – Musical or Comedy.
It received multiple other accolades and was nominated for both the Academy Award for best supporting actress for Melissa McCarthy and best original screenplay for Wiig and Mumolo.
It is therefore the first Apatow-produced film to be nominated for an Academy Award.
Rotten Tomatoes says 90 per cent of critics gave the film a positive review based on 279 reviews, with an average score of 7.6/10.
Bridesmaids is on ITV2 at 9pm, Tuesday April 3.
