Paramore have unveiled their latest video, and in essence it’s an ode to Ron Burgundy and the San Diego KVWN channel 4 news team.
Taken from their acclaimed 2017 album After Laughter, “Rose-Colored Boy” is a song that examines the difference in outlooks on life as explored in a relationship setting.
Having suffered a few knocks in life, Hayley Williams struggles to hold a positive view on life while the boy in which the song is titled after sees the good in everything and envisions a bright future ahead, much to Hayley’s frustration.
The video is fun play on the popular Will Ferrell movie, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Seeing Hayley, Zac Farro and Taylor York take on various news reporter roles, fun ensues on set until Hayley starts seeing things. Is it her conscience telling her to let up? Is it her chasing something that isn’t there? Is the “Rose-Colored Boy” taunting her in a manner where he hopes she’ll see the positive side of life?
Returning to a place of innocence when things were simpler, when life didn’t get in the way, towards the end of the video she watches videos of her young self reporting on the news in a makeshift studio when her dreams and aspirations outweighed life’s many twists and turns.
Paramore’s fifth studio release and first new album in more than four years, After Laughter, is available now at all retailers and streaming services. Highlighted by the singles “Hard Times”, “Told You So” and “Fake Happy”, the album debuted on the Billboard 200 at #6 upon its May 2017 release – Paramore’s third consecutive top 10 chart debut.
