What a week for Peter Kay fans. Amazing.
Fresh from the news that he’s embarking on a stand-up comedy tour, Peter Kay has announced the return of the BAFTA award-winning Car Share with two brand new specials on BBC One.
The comedian made the announcement during BBC Children in Need and it’s sure to delight his fans.
The show won Best Comedy at the 2016 National Television Awards and the BAFTA TV Awards for Best Male Comedy Performance and Best Scripted Comedy at the 2016 BAFTA TV Awards.
At the end of the second series, Car Share viewers were left in dismay when Kayleigh stepped out of John’s car and his life forever. In fact, there was even an online created which demanded a conclusion
Speaking about its return, Kay says: “We were completely overwhelmed by the response and even though we’ve no plans to write a third series we knew we couldn’t end the story there.”
A special finale episode to be broadcast next year will reveal just what happens next to John and Kayleigh.
Before then, BBC One will broadcast a special episode called Car Share: Unscripted which will follow John and Kayleigh home on their daily commute only the entire episode will be completely improvised.
Peter says: “We were always very fond of ad-libbing around the script when we were filming the series so we decided to see what would happen if we took the script away and just relied on just our chemistry alone, reacting to whatever came on the radio.”
