Pokemon Go has broken at least one App Store record

This shows just how big it's got

There’s no questioning the popularity of Pokemon Go.

The augmented reality game is being played by so many people that the old phrase ‘you’re never more than six feet away from a rat’ might have to be updated to ‘you’re never more than six feet away from a Rattata’.

It’s so addictive that we’ve even got people playing during state department meetings in the US.

Want to know how popular it’s got? Well, Apple have claimed it has set a new record for the most-downloaded App Store app in its first week.

Not the most-downloaded game. The most downloaded app, full stop.

The information was provided to TechCrunch by Apple themselves, though exact numbers are yet to be released.

But have a think about what other apps you can download direct from the App Store, and you’ll get an idea of the scale we’re dealing with here.

Pokemon Go received a staggered roll-out across the world after pressure on game servers followed its US release. That meant us in the UK (assuming we didn’t find a crafty workaround) had to wait a few days to be able to get our hands on it.

We’re not sure whether Apple has fortnightly figures at this stage, but the implied numbers already out there are already pretty eye-catching.
