Production has officially begun on ALL FOUR of the Avatar sequels, and the release dates have been announced

Incredibly, the original was released a whole eight years ago

Avatar is quite the oddity, isn’t it?

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who would call it their favourite movie, yet it is still the biggest box office hit of all time – even the return of Star Wars or Jurassic Park could take that title – and it is one of those movies that if you’re flicking through the stations, you might leave it on “just until something better comes on” but then it’s two and a bit hours later and you’re totally caught up again in the world of the Na’Vi and their special tree.

But the biggest peculiarity of the film is that  it came out in 2009 and we STILL haven’t got a sequel, and we talked before about how the road to the sequel seemed never ending, constantly stretching further and further passed the horizon.

Writer and director clearly isn’t one to rush things – it was twelve years after making Titanic by the time Avatar hit the screens – but he finally, FINALLY officially announced that production on the sequels had begun, but not only that, Avatar 3, 4 and 5 were all being made simultaneously with it.

So there you have it:

  • Avatar 2 – 18 Dec 2020
  • Avatar 3 – 17 Dec 2021
  • Avatar 4 – 20 Dec 2024
  • Avatar 5 – 19 Dec 2025

We imagine every other movie will be giving these as much room as possible at the box office.

So far there’s very little known about the movie, other than Sam Worthington saying that it will pick up eight years after the events of the first one, and he and Zoe Saldana’s character have a family together.

Also, according to IMDb, both Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang’s characters will be back for the sequel, despite being… well… dead. We’re not even going to say SPOILERS for that one because the movie made all of the money in the world and if you haven’t seen it by now then that’s really you’re own fault.
